In the early morning hours of April 9, 1940, German soldiers marched across the border into Denmark. They occupied the land. It was a peaceful occupation in which Denmark did not resist. The Danish government chooses instead to cooperate.
But not everyone chose the policy of cooperation. Several Danes fought the German occupying forces, but the war they fought was secret. As few people as possible had to know anything, because it was a life-threatening struggle that could cost the resistance fighters and their families everything.
One of the people who risked everything for freedom in his homeland was Knud Schmidt-Olsen. He was a freedom fighter. So much about the family, but more they do not know.
